I've started volunteering thru the 'Community Visitors Scheme'. Huh? It means once a week I'm spending some time with "Norm", a late-60-yo bloke who's suffereing the early stages of dementia, who lives in a local nursing home. It's a buzz - I'm enjoying it already. Norm is housebound (as such), so we're both enjoying just hanging out and chatting, slowly getting to know each other. Part of Norm's condition is that he oftern forgets what we've been talking about and repeats himself, but that's fine. He seems to enjoy seeing me once a week to just have a casual chat. It's satisfying for me, too. Community Visitors Scheme Dealing with Dementia
I'm scared! There's something really strange happening outside this weekend! The sky is falling! No - seriously! There's some wierd wet and cold clear stuff falling from out of the sky! I'm not sure what it is! There's funny wet stuff all over the ground - it's really bizarre! This sort of freakish weather just doesn't happen here... or, not that I remember, anyway... it's all so strange...

To be honest, I keep slipping between a 6 and a 3-out-of-10 this week... it's bloody tough. Really tough.

Hang in there Mal!
It has been awesome to see the rain this weekend...and some more is forecast for the coming week as well!
Glad to hear you're enjoying the old people. You would be an excellent person to sit and chat and listen to their stories. Good on you!
Glad your keeping busy.
I just hope that he is not a violent person..i have heard horror stories.
No no! 'Norm' is not violent, by no means! Nothing to worry about there. Just sitting about talking doesn't unsettle him at all, aparently. he's only new to this nursing home, so having a regular visitor for him to help feel a little more at home will always be a help for him. :)
Still existing on a 3/10 - sleeping, sleeping, sleeping... it's exhausting being depressed somedays!
